When I first booked my photographer and was told we got a complimentary engagement shoot I was really quite excited. It wasn't until the actual day that I thought ah - on the wedding day I get someone professional to make me up, but no, not today. Today I do it myself. So, I had to think of a fair few things before I put my face on.
So, having my picture taken with friends etc as a normal everyday thing is kinda different. Someone isnt there with a great big professional camera - unless that person is me with my big camera. Anyway, there were some products I said no to straight away and others that were a sure win. So let me stop rambly writing and actually explain...
So first up I literally made sure my face was super squeaky clean and also put a mattifying moisturiser on there as well. For this I used the Nuxe Micellar Water and The Body Shop Mattifying Moisturiser. Then I popped on my trusty fave primer, Kiehls Micro Blur Skin Perfector. Basically this all just smoothes out the base and makes sure it's a really nice blank canvas for your make up, allowing it to last longer.
For the base I used L'Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation, it gives great coverage, really even and keeps my oily skin matte. Not only that, but it's also without SPF so you won't get that annoying white glow. For concealer I didn't want to cake too much on, and the foundation already gives enough coverage, so I used the Maybelline Dream Touch Lumi Concealer, it's great as a really subtle highlight so I popped this on all the places I'd want the light to naturally hit and blended it in.
I used Benefit Hoola to add a bit of colour to the face and a little bit of contour, it gives a really natural bronze which I love, not too much and doesn't look too over the top. Then I used Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush, it's a beautiful natural looking blush with a very subtle highlight in it. It just gives a really nice flush, making you loo really healthy and even a little bit in love.
For the eyes I wanted to look like me, but longer lasting. I used my new By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock, a beautiful unique shade. I blended it out and did a little bit of contour of it in the crease as well. Then I applied my usual Collection Fast Stroke Liquid Liner - long lasting, easy to use and my fail safe. Lastly I applied a lick of Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara.
For the lips, I used a Lush lip scrub to get rid of all dry and dead skin, great for creating a smooth surface. Then I used Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob as a base, covering the lips, then topped with Rimmel Kate Nude in 45 Lipstick. I wanted a really natural lip as the shoot was somewhere historic and natural so I didn't want to look over done.
