A new lipstick launch and I'm there, it's basic science. Out of all the high street options for good lipsticks (and there are a few) Rimmel has always impressed me with their ranges. So when I saw they'd released a new range call The Only 1, I had to give them a try.
There are two finishes for these, you have your normal sheer type finish which I believe has been around for a while (don't quote me on that), and then you have their newer matte formula. So whatever finish you prefer, you have your pick.
If I'm completely honest, I'm having a bit of a love/hate relationship with these lipsticks. I absolutely love the formula for both finishes, and I'll go into that in more detail in a moment. That is my love... However, I'm not a huge fan of the funny shaped lids. I just find them a bit weird and a bit too bulk. I think they just feel quite cheap as well - I know they are cheap, but there's ways of making them look a bit more slick. Also, I hate the scent. Really really hate the scent. I don't even know how to describe it, but it's just not ideal. Usually Rimmel's lip products have a sweetie kind of scent to them which I love, but these - just no.
Moving onto the formula for these though... This is where all love heart emojis come into play and makes the weird lids and icky scent worth using. First off we have the glossier style finishes. When this first goes on it feels very slippery, which worried me slightly, however it dries very quickly and becomes incredibly comfortable on the lips. They have a very natural finish to them, not too glossy but not matte, and the wear time is pretty impressive too for a non-matte formula. I picked up two shades in this range, and they're actually quite similar. First up is Naughty Nude which is a very lovely pinky toned nude - basically a 'my lips but better' shade. It's the perfect everyday shade if you're not confident enough to go for full on colour or bolder shades. The second one is It's a Keeper, which is another nude shade, but it's much pinker and has a bit more of a plum colour to it. I think its my favourite of the two as it's a little different to my other shades. But both are great everyday shades and I've been reaching for them not stop.
Now for the matte formula - and I have to say I think this is one of my favourite matte lipstick formulas of all time. It is just so frigging comfortable. It's super easy to apply and doesn't drag on the lips as some matte formulas tend to do, and it's not drying in the slightest. It's immediately comfortable and you really do forget you're wearing it - it sits there like a second skin. Again I picked up two shades. The first is High Flyer. Again, a more pinky nude and one I've been reaching for a lot. If you prefer a more matte shade this is definitely your go to everyday shade. The second colour is basically the love of my life right now, and that's The Matte Factor. I can't even tell you how many compliments I get when I wear this shade. It's the perfect dark, plummy red and is the ultimate winter, festive red. I can see myself getting so much use out of this is the next few weeks, and dare I say it - I think it actually beats Rimmels Kate Matte 107. Yes, I said it. The only thing I'd say with this shade is you have to make sure your lips are in good condition, otherwise it does tend to go darker on drier patches which makes the lips look patchy. However, that's a given with all darker matte shades.
Overall I'm a big fan, as I usually am with Rimmel's lippy releases, and they've become an everyday staple.
