It’s that time of year between Christmas and New Year where time just stands still. It’s a spare five days of the year where you can recharge from the festivities before you use it all up again on New Year’s Eve. With that in mind, I want to spend these next five days sharing with you some of my favourite things from the last year.
I started as beauty blogger, so to finish of 2016 what better way to show my love of beauty, but to do five posts on my top beauty products in different areas before New Year. So sorry if you don’t like beauty…
Over the next three days I’m going to take you through my favourite budget make up, my favourite high end make up, and my favourite skin care products. So let’s get started with my favourite budget make up pieces from 2016. If I don’t have a category, it’s because I didn’t have a favourite for the year.
Favourite primer: I’ve stayed away from budget primers the past few years, but for me I’ve fallen in love with Max Factors Smooth Miracle Primer. It’s very different to my high end favourite, but does exactly the same job. It smooths the skin, leaving the perfect palette for make-up, and keeps it in place all day. What more could you want from a primer?
Favourite base: L’Oreal in general have smashed it out the park in terms of bases for me the past couple of years, however my favourite this year is definitely their True Match foundation. It’s got such a beautiful finish to it – not too matte, but not too dewy – it’s incredibly lightweight but has good medium coverage. It lasts throughout the day and doesn’t go patchy. The range of shades available is huge, so it’s definitely a foundation I’m sure everyone can find a colour in.
Favourite concealer: I’ve switched between so many this year, but for me I’d have to go with L’Oreal’s Lumi Magique Concealer. It’s not the best for blemishes, but for me it’s perfect at combatting dark circles under the eyes. I take it with me everywhere for touch ups, and just really helps to brighten.
Favourite blush: I’ve not really used a budget blush too much this year, but when I have I’ve gone straight to Max Factors Crème Puff Blushes. I have a few shades and they look so pretty on the skin. They have a shimmer to them that has a bit of highlight, and they last all day long. They’re very much a dupe for Hourglasses blushes – which you’ll find in my favourite high end post.
Favourite eyeshadow: I’ve been obsessed with the Maybelline palettes this year, in particular The Nudes and The Blushed Nudes. I’ll use either of these on a daily basis, they’re super soft and easy to blend, and they last for a ridiculous amount of time. The shades are gorgeous, I really think there’s something for everyone in these palettes, and they’re super affordable.
Favourite mascara: It absolutely has to be Maybelline’s LashSensational Waterproof Mascara. Without a shadow of a doubt. I’ve repurchased this so many times this year I’ve lost count. It lengthens, separates, curls, adds volume – basically whatever you want it to do it does. It’s hands down the best mascara I have ever used. Big statement there.
Favourite lipstick: I’m going to have to go with two different ranges here, both from Rimmel. The first is Rimmel’s Lasting Finish by Kate Nude Collection. I’ve worn a lot of nude on my lips this year, and this range is just perfection. It has the perfect nude for everyone, it’s so comfortable and lasts for hours. However, towards the end of the year I’ve also fallen for their The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks. They have a very comfortable feel to them, and the matte finish is perfect. They aren’t drying, and the shades are gorgeous. In particular I love The Matte Factor, which is the perfect festive berry red.
So there you have it! I know there are a few things missing, like powder or eyeliner, however it’s because I didn’t really love any budget versions of these types of products this year. So I didn’t really want to add things in for the sake of them.
Tomorrow’s will be all around my favourite high end make up pieces, so if you want to spend a little more on your make up this will be more up your street. But I hope you liked it, share it if you do and don’t forget to follow me on Bloglovin to keep up to date with all of my posts!
