Sometimes you want to spend a little more on your make up, I get it, I do too. So if that’s the case, this post could be right up your street. As part of my run down to 2017, this post goes through my top high end make up products from 2016.
Favourite primer: This isn’t really something new for 2016, I’ve loved this primer long time. However, I couldn’t not include the Kiehl’s MicroBlur Skin Perfector. It’s not for everyone, but it smoothes your skin and makes it look perfected – blurring it as the name suggests. I love using it on no make-up days just to give an Instagram filter to the skin. It’s also the best at keeping make up in place for as long as possible, so is the perfect night out primer, or if you have a heavy duty day.
Favourite base: This was a trickier one for me, as there are two I’ve absolutely loved this year. However, I decided to go for the base that was new for me this year, and that’s the Dior Diorskin Forever Foundation. I wore this on my wedding day, but it has the perfect finish to it, it’s super lightweight but with high coverage. It lasts for hours and hours, even without a primer, and it’s just a beautiful foundation.
Favourite powder: I didn’t really get the idea of a powder until the tail end of this year. I’d tried a few and hated how they looked. However, the powder in the Hourglass Lighting Edit Surreal Light palette is magic. Surreal Light (the powder) is a beautiful sheer nude powder that adds a gorgeous natural glow to the skin. It doesn’t feel or look cakey, it just perfects and helps your make up stay in place, and keeps shiny skin at bay. This made me fall in love with powder.
Favourite bronzer: For me my favourite bronzer is the same every year, and that’s Benefit’s Hoola. You can’t beat it. The shade is perfect for my skin and just gives it some natural looking colour, it’s long wearing and its really pigmented. I’ve recently hit pan with this and couldn’t be more devastated – but it’s something I’m happy to shell out the cash for again because I know I’ll use it and love it forever more.
Favourite blush: This blush is beauty itself. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush is my perfect blush. It’s the perfect pink shade to make a flush looks completely natural, with a hint of highlight running through it to pull out my cheekbones. It also lasts for a frigging long time. The packaging is beautiful, and yeah. I could rave forever, but I won’t bore you. It’s just, sigh.
Favourite eyeshadow: For this I’ve picked out another palette, much like the budget version of this post. Enter Urban Decay’s Naked Smoky Palette. Now, I wasn’t 100% sold on this when I first got it for Christmas last year, however the more I’ve used it the more I’ve fallen for it. In particular the golden and bronze shade near the end – these have been my go to over the Christmas period. The shadows are buttery soft, and last for hours. The brush it comes with as well is great, I use this as my main blending and crease brush now.
Favourite eyeliner: Up until this year I was definitely a budget eyeliner kinda gal. However, I had my make-up trial and it all changed. Now I couldn’t live with Stila’s All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. It’s a felt tip liner that is ridiculously easy to use, has a deep solid black line and lasts for hours. I have an issue with liner transferring onto my upper lid, but I don’t have it with this product. I love using it, it creates the perfect flicked line.
Favourite mascara: For me it’s the higher end version of my budget love – Benefit’s Rollerlash Mascara. It has a curved wand, much like Maybelline’s offering, and lengthens and curls beautifully. If you want volume this probably isn’t your type of product, but for me length and definition is my bag, and this provides it in buckets.
Favourite lipstick: This was quite an easy one for me, as there’s only really been one range I’ve fallen head over heels for this year and completely forgotten budget. That’s the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipsticks. They scream luxury from the moment you see them, and the feel luxury from the moment you put them on. The colours are dreamy, and the finish is the perfect level of matte and satin combined. They’re long lasting, comfortable to wear and have high pigmentation. What more could you want?
So there you have it! I know there are a few things missing, like highlight or concealer, however it’s because I didn’t really love any high end versions of these types of products this year. So I didn’t really want to add things in for the sake of them.
Tomorrow’s will be all around my favourite skin care pieces, so if you’re a bit of a skincare lover you can check this out. But I hope you liked it, share it if you do and don’t forget to follow me on Bloglovin to keep up to date with all of my posts!
