Make up will only look so good, depending on how your skin is feeling and what quality it’s in. With that in mind I thought it only right to pop in my favourite skincare items from 2016.
A boring little disclaimer here, but please remember everyone’s skin is different – and therefore what may work for me, may not work for you. My skin changes its mind on a daily basis as to what it wants to be – generally I have dehydrated skin (not dry) that can come up as oily or flaky – depending on what products I’m putting on it and the time of year. I get oily skin because it’s dehydrated. I also get blemishes come up, depending on my diet and what products I’m using. So again, it really depends. However, these products have really been my stand out picks for the year.
Favourite make up remover: Micellar waters have been my go to for removing make up this year, I’ve loved them. They get rid of even the most stubborn of waterproof mascara and they’re super gentle – therefore my skin loves them. However, my favourite has been the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water for Combination Skin. With large cotton pads it really just clears the skin and dissolves my make-up then and there. It’s purse friendly as well!
Favourite cleanser: This is one I’ve gone back and forth, back and forth with. But for me I’ve loved the Clinique Cleansing Balm. I’ve never been a huge fan of balms as I tend to find them greasy, but this one is really nice, super gentle on my skin and breaks down any remaining dirt. It doesn’t feel super oily after and my skin just looks so much clearer and cleaner.
Favourite toner: Toner is one of those products where I don’t notice a difference until I stop using it. For me my go to toner has been the La Roche Posay Serozinc Spray. It’s a quick spritz on your face after cleansing, let it settle and you’re done. It makes such a big difference to my skin in terms of keeping it clean and clear, and I’ve repurchased so many times. I don’t even look at other toners anymore.
Favourite treatment: There’s two I’ve been tossing between this year, depending on my skin. However, I’m going to go for the Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate. Yes, it’s a touch pricey, but my skin loves this stuff. It rehydrates it so well and just smooths my skin completely, adding life back into it. My skin can end up looking sallow and lifeless, but this serum helps to give me life and added moisture. It gets rid of any dry flaky bits which is a massive plus for me.
Favourite day moisturiser: I’ve been reaching more and more for the Bioderma Sebium Mat Mattifying Moisturiser. I have to use a mattifying moisturiser for the day, otherwise I end up looking so greasy and oily. This is great, it adds a great level of moisture for the day, whilst keeping my skin looking normal. I’ve found when I use this I have a lot less dry patches when applying my make-up then other day moisturisers I’ve been trying out.
Favourite night moisturiser: There was no competition for this little product, which is The Body Shop Vitamin E Sink In Moisture Sleeping Mask. You pop on a layer before bed and the idea is it tends to sink in overnight, leaving your skin plumped and super soft for the morning. I frigging love this stuff. I tend to use it every other night or I overload my skin with it, but it’s perfect for me. It’s like a gel so it’s not too heavy and it doesn’t leave me feeling oily or greasy. Perfect.
These are my skincare loves for this year. I haven’t put a mask or an eye cream in as I just haven’t found one that I really love this year, hopefully 2017 will help with this so let me know if you have any suggestions!
